Designed for people beginning their career in Early Childhood, CHC30121 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care will provide you with the foundational skills and knowledge required to support children in a variety of early childhood education environments, and a learning pathway to pursue Diploma level qualifications in the sector. On completion of this course you will be able to plan and deliver educational programs that focus on supporting children’s wellbeing, learning and development. This course is the minimum qualification to gain employment in an Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA) approved Early Childhood Service. Depending on the educational setting, holders of this qualification may work under direct supervision, or autonomously.

Early Childhood Education and Care is focused on providing quality educational programs for children aged 6 weeks to 12 years. Focused on the holistic development of a child’s social, emotional, cognitive and physical needs, early childhood education builds a solid and broad foundation for lifelong learning and wellbeing.

This work is undertaken in a wide variety of environments including childcare centres, kindergartens, out of school hours care, Family Day Care and individual care. Educators will:
17 units of study – 15 core and two elective units of competency. No pre-requisites.
Our Skills Generation Trainer delivers 16 units. Students need to enrol with and pay separately to an approved First Aid training provider to complete the required First Aid unit.
First Aid unit to be acquired externally to Skills Generation – HLTAID012 Provide First Aid in an education and care setting
Students must complete the First Aid unit with the exact unit code required in this qualification, or a unit that supersedes and is equivalent to it. If in doubt, check with your Skills Generation trainer before enrolling in a First Aid course.
The First Aid unit will be credit transferred to the Skills Generation CHC30121 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care.
The Australian Qualifications Framework determines that the duration of this qualification is 1 – 2 years, however with both face-to-face training, and flexible online learning, learners are typically completing within the first 6 – 12 months. How quickly an individual is able to complete the course will depend on how fast they work through the content, their commitment to learning and their level of competence.
160 hours of vocational work placement must be undertaken in a regulated children’s education and care service in Australia to meet the requirements of this course.
Students need to find their own work placement with an organisation approved by Skills Generation. It is important to find a work placement at the beginning of the course. Skills Generation staff and your trainer will be available to assist you to identify suitable organisations.
Students who are already employed in early childhood education and care may be able to undertake their work placement with their employer and their current experience may satisfy the work placement requirements. You can review your work history with your Skills Generation trainer prior to commencing the course to see if your experience can be used.
Students are responsible for the cost of any travel and accommodation that may be associated with work placement. Skills Generation insurance covers students undertaking course requirements while on work placement

Please refer to the relevant Queensland/other State Government website/s for the most up-to-date information regarding any restrictions and vaccination requirements that may be in place. On successful completion of this course you will receive the nationally recognised qualification:
CHC30121 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care
The qualification is awarded by Skills Generation RTO 41008, with training and assessment delivered by Skills Generation or an approved Third Party training provider on behalf of Skills Generation.
The Commonwealth Government requires all learners undertaking nationally recognised, accredited training courses to have a Unique Student Identifier (USI). Learners are unable to enrol without their USI.
If you are currently working, or have previously worked in a relevant industry, you may be eligible for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). RPL applies where you have workplace experience/competency that can be formally assessed against the units of competency in this course. If you wish to undertake an RPL process, please discuss with our Student Services enrolments team.
This course currently attracts government funding for eligible students. Students who access funded training pay a co-contribution fee that represents a small fraction of the total course fee!
Students eligible for subsidised training under government funding programs can normally only access the funding once, so it is important that you choose your course carefully.
Eligibility criteria for funding can be found on our Funding and Fees page, or contact us to discuss your circumstances and determine your eligibility.
Students who are not eligible for subsidised training pay the full course fee.
Payment Plans are available making it easy for students to make weekly, fortnightly or monthly payment instalments.
