The Department of Employment, Small Business and Training (DESBT) Skilling Queenslanders for Work (SQW) initiative assists disadvantaged Queenslanders to gain skills, qualifications, and experience to enter and stay in the workforce.
The initiative funds community organisations to deliver training and support programs to up to 15,000 unemployed or underemployed Queenslanders.
Skills Generation in partnership with Not-for-profit Skills Hubs is currently supporting four SQW cohorts across Brisbane and Sunshine Coast regions. The participants are studying CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support and aspiring to join the workforce in the rapidly growing aged care sector. In conjunction with their accredited face-to-face training, the participants are being provided with a variety of wrap around services to remove barriers, build industry networks, and prepare for a successful transition to employment.
Accompanied by their trainer Kellie, the Browns Plains SQW cohort recently took a break from the classroom to attend the Care Expo at the Brisbane Convention Centre.
Kellie said the event provided a valuable opportunity for the students to network with industry providers, explore the latest equipment, and interact with various forms of assistive technology, many of which had been covered during the theory components of their course.
“The event proved to be an excellent networking opportunity, with students receiving positive feedback from potential employers. Several providers expressed interest in offering placements and employment opportunities for newcomers to the industry. Overall, it was an action-packed and highly beneficial day,” Kellie said.
We wish the Browns Plains group and all of the SQW cohorts continued success!
This training is proudly funded by the Queensland Government through its Skilling Queenslanders for Work initiative.
