Regional, Rural and Remote
Our Regional, Rural and Remote Focus
Skills Generation is committed to providing high quality training and skills for employability, workforce development and local capacity building in regional, rural and remote locations in Queensland and nationally. Our training is aligned to workforce and economic needs, focusing on the courses industry and employers want, supporting higher level skills, upskilling and re-skilling workforces.
Provide regions with quality training options
We actively embed inclusive and culturally sensitive practices within our training, processes, systems and day-to-day activities to support student participation and learning outcomes, and support our students to obtain relevant work experience or vocational placement, and to achieve positive employment outcomes.
Dispersed populations present unique challenges for the training system in Australia. Students and employers experience barriers, including cost, limited choice and lack of face-to-face delivery. Making sure quality skills are within reach– and are aligned to local industries – is a big part of realising a productive economy and it’s potential.
Innovative strategies and community collaboration to support more local training
Skills Generation understands that geographically isolated regions with thinly spread populations are at risk of missing out on localised place-based training and support for students, so innovation and collaboration are at the forefront of our approach, aiming to support individuals, employers and the community to meet local economic and social priorities. Our goal is to skill workers for improved employability, earning capacity, and engagement in community.
We have strong collaborative relationships with local employers, industry and community organisations, to facilitate training responses that directly address local skills needs and deliver job outcomes for residents, needed to help grow connected and vibrant communities.
The bespoke design Skills Generation training delivered for the Queensland Government Homecare Workforce Support Program is an example of our ability to put innovation and collaboration into practice to deliver successful training and employment outcomes in a regional, rural and remote context.
Skills Generation delivered innovative training in full qualifications and industry specific Skills Sets in bespoke design, blended training modes including in face-to-face settings across a number of regional, rural and remote locations in Queensland as member of the successful consortium delivering the Commonwealth Government funded Homecare Workforce Support Program for Queensland 2022-24. Locations included Charleville, Esk, Mount Isa, Yarraman, Port Douglas, Russell, Macleay, Lamb and Karragarra Islands and more. The training was developed in close consultation and collaboration with local stakeholders – councils, employment agencies, industries and the broader community, to ensure local needs were understood and met.
With a proven successful track record and performance in providing training services across rural and remote locations, we are an approved provider to deliver training in the Queensland Government Rural and Remote Pilot 2024. Our training strategy under the Pilot program represents a community-based solution that leverages local networks that have local knowledge, resources, and expertise, and can navigate obstacles and realise opportunities to inform effective local solutions. The program is tailored to help grow connected and vibrant communities by providing solutions for individuals, local industry and communities, that will contribute to the well-being and resilience of the individual, their families, and more broadly provide longer-term economic and social benefits for the community.
Cooperation with schools to provide solutions for students in isolated and remote locations
Skills Generation partners with Schools across Queensland, working in close collaboration with the Schools’ Community to provide high quality Vocational Education and Training (VET) options for Senior Secondary students across the State in a range of accredited qualifications. We cooperate with our partner schools to provide innovative solutions and course offerings for geographically isolated students and schools. Innovations including the online HyFlex Skills training model for Certificate II qualifications through to mobile ‘Bringing training to you’ models where Skills Generation trainers provide in-person online training supplemented with regionally clustered in-person visits at intervals throughout the year, enable schools in regional, rural and remote locations to increase VET training choices for their students.
