Monika has harnessed the Power of Skills through a Traineeship and is being recognised in the 2025 Queensland Training Awards!

We’re excited to announce that Skills Generation Graduate Monika Bastowska has been selected as a regional finalist for the Metropolitan region in the prestigious Bob Marshman Trainee of the Year Category of the 2025 Queensland Training Awards.

Monika was working in Aged Care, and as a mature student decided to take a leap of faith and undertake a Traineeship to improve her skills and employment opportunities, enrolling in CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing) with Skills Generation. Returning to study after years away from formal education was at times challenging, but she successfully managed her many responsibilities and commitments so she could prioritise her Traineeship and devote her time to her study.

As a student Monika had a wonderful positive attitude and approach. She was actively engaged with the course and with her trainer and was always prepared to reach out to her trainer to seek advice and guidance when she needed it. She also had the encouragement and backing of her employer, Wesley Mission Qld, and the support of the dedicated and passionate Skills Generation Traineeship Officer.

Monika has become a strong advocate for the Traineeships system in Queensland, and encourages others to take the path that she did to a rewarding career through high-quality Vocational Education and Training and the Traineeships program. Now working in her dream job, she willingly shares her experience and the strategies that helped her reach her goals. Her encouragement provides inspiration and motivation to others, helping them develop a sense of self-confidence and gain the ability to picture themselves taking a similar path.

Monika’s selection as one of three finalists from a pool of 743 nominees for Trainee of the Year is a significant achievement and a reflection of her dedication, skill, and the positive impact she is making through Vocational Education and Training. The winners of the Training Awards will be announced at the 2025 State Award Ceremony to be held on 25 July 2025 at Brisbane City Hall.

We congratulate Monika and wish her all the very best for success with her Queensland Training Award nomination. As a student who was outstanding in all aspects of her training, she is an exemplary candidate for this award, and we are cheering her on for the next stage!
